I Got Fucking SHINGLES

SHINGLES. WHAT THE FUUUUUCK.

A couple of months after my laparoscopic myomectomy, I started to feel “rashy”. I don’t know how else to explain it. I had this really gross cluster of small blisters between my right fingers. I thought it was just eczema at first or maybe some sort of athletes foot fungus on my hand. I tried ointments but it wasn’t helping at all. In fact, it was spreading and really hurting. I was taking IBUProfen like it was my job, but it wasn’t really helping.

THE PAIN. Ohhhh the pain. After a week I was really like what the fuck is this!? It hurts sooo bad. It spread up my arm and onto my elbow and up my fingertips. My nerves in my fingers were popping.

It felt like I had small glass shards swimming up and down my right arm and fingers.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I told my hubby I had to go to Urgent Care. I felt so stupid, it was just a rash….

The doctor took one look at it and said YOU HAVE SHINGLES! How long have you had this? I told him it had been about a week. He couldn’t believe I didn’t come in sooner and asked how I dealt with the pain. He said he had never seen it run up the fingers like mine (OF FUCKING COURSE) and that it was a terrible spot to have Shingles. GREATTTTTTT. He asked if I had been stressed lately, because that is what can bring Shingles on. I was super stressed after surgery and thinking about our fertility. Super awesome.

**FYI: If you’ve ever had the Chicken Pox, you can get Shingles.**

I told him that I couldn’t even use my right arm anyways, and that I wore long sleeves and only used my left hand for everything. He gave me a prescription to take and I got home and cried.

I finished my round of meds and it was starting to look better. Then, a couple of days later the shooting pain CAME BACK and the blisters CAME BACK!!!

I went to a different Urgent Care, and they couldn’t believe that the Shingles came back. Here I went Googling and panicking. They said there really is no cure and that the virus had to run its course. The only thing to do was to take more meds. Finally, after the 2nd round of meds, I was feeling better again. My nerves, however, were on fire at my fingertips and palm.

I would lightly brush up against something and it felt like someone was hammering nails into my hand. It hurt so bad! It was almost like stubbing your toe over and over. That instant pain and jumping up and down growling and swearing through the pain.

I couldn’t use my right hand for months and I avoided using it as much as possible. When I showered or got dressed, I had to use only my left hand to wash my hair, pull up my pants, etc.

Even after 8 months, I still feel the horrendous nerve pain once in a while. It comes on randomly.

WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?! WHAT ELSE CAN HAPPEN TO ME? REALLY?
